Great times to put up a GLBTQ display!


There are several dates throughout the year that would be suitable for a book display of queer YA fiction, from Banned Books Week to Celebrate Bisexuality Day.

There is also a full list of local LGBT events by country on Wikipedia (which are generally at local city level and are distinct from the national or international holidays below).

National Library Week - second week of April, USA
Celebrate freedom of speech and free access to knowledge, including the controversial topics of homosexuality and gender issues.

Day of Silence - mid April, USA

The International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia (IDAHO) - May 17th, worldwide
To raise awareness and respect for GLBTQ people worldwide. Commemorates the day that homosexuality was removed from the International Classification of Diseases of the World Health Organization (WHO) in 1990.

Harvey Milk Day - May 22nd, worldwide
In memory of the gay rights activist who was assassinated in 1978.

LGBT Pride Month - June, USA
Commemorates the Stonewall Riots (June, 1969) and general awareness raising of LGBT people and their impact on the world. The official anniversary of the Stonewall Riots is June 27th.

International Drag Day - July 16th, worldwide
